Crime (Lack of)

 

Amsterdam is not without it's own crime. The three main crimes in Amsterdam are:

 

To avoid pickpockets put your valuables in your hotel safe and take only what you need for your day. Put your credit cards and cash in your front pocket and don't carry a wallet (even with a chain). Avoid extremely crowed trams and busses. Most of the time you will not need your passport so leave it at the hotel.

Strong-arm Robbery / Murder / Assault are very rare in Amsterdam, this does not mean they do not exist it is just not common place. It is not uncommon for local's to leave their doors unlocked at night. Which needless to say is very impressive for such a crowed city.

One final note: Amsterdam is very laid back, lots of fun, and a place people come back to over and over again, but don't drop all your inhibitions. If you do not pay attention to what's going on around you anything can happen.
